Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has taken a significant step towards transforming Himachal Pradesh into a “Green Energy State” by flagging off 24 state-of-the-art Volvo buses. These newly launched vehicles symbolize the state’s commitment to providing world-class transport facilities and adopting sustainable energy solutions.
A Vision for Sustainable Transport
At a public gathering in Solan’s Kyari Ghat, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of robust transport infrastructure in a state with limited rail and air connectivity. Recognizing the critical role of the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC), substantial annual grants of Rs. 1,000 crore have been earmarked to enhance transport services for the public. A comprehensive fleet upgrade includes 500 diesel buses, 300 electric buses, and 30 high-end Volvos.
Investments in Green Energy
In a move aligned with environmental goals, Himachal Pradesh intends to bolster its green energy footprint by promoting hydrogen-powered and electric buses. Plans for additional charging stations have been announced, backed by an Rs. 110 crore investment, reinforcing the government’s commitment to clean and sustainable energy solutions.
Serving The Remote and The Daily Commuter
HRTC’s bus services remain a lifeline for the state, covering routes from urban hubs to the most remote villages, connecting scenic paths like Delhi to Leh. Cumulatively, four to five lakh passengers rely on these buses daily, a testament to the HRTC’s pivotal role in everyday travel. Over two years, 250 new diesel buses have been introduced, with plans for further expansion underway.
Empowering HRTC Employees
Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri highlighted financial improvements for HRTC employees, including the implementation of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) and payment arrears. New bus stands are also under construction, ensuring comprehensive support for both the workforce and passengers.
Celebrating Milestones and Future Trajectories
Celebrating HRTC’s 50-year journey, Deputy Speaker Vinay Kumar praised the corporation’s dedication to service through diverse terrains. The additions of high-tech buses are expected to enhance state revenue while providing a comfortable travel experience.
On the occasion, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil lauded the Chief Minister’s proactive schemes for socio-economic upliftment, envisioning these measures as catalysts for growth.
As stated in News Arena India, Himachal Pradesh is undoubtedly steering towards a bright and green future, setting new benchmarks in sustainable public transport initiatives and energy solutions.
