Punjab's Hi-Tech Leap in Jail Security

In a groundbreaking move to enhance the security and efficiency of the state’s prison system, the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is ushering in significant technological upgrades. As part of this innovative initiative, state prisons are set to experience a revolutionary transformation toward modern, technology-driven management systems.

AI-Based Surveillance Revolution

Minister S. Laljit Singh Bhullar has announced a major upgrade in surveillance technology within Punjab’s prisons. Eight central jails are already equipped with an AI-enabled CCTV system that provides instant alerts for any unauthorized activities, such as wall scaling or attempts at smuggling contraband. These upgrades will soon be extended to 17 more jails, reinforcing the prison’s vigilance and control.

Blocking Illegal Communications

In a high-tech security boost, T-HCBS jamming systems have been installed in selected prisons to combat illegal mobile communications. Furthermore, the introduction of 19 X-ray baggage scanners across 13 sensitive jails marks a significant step in bolstering entrance security protocols.

Comprehensive Security Enhancements

The Punjab Government’s commitment to deterring unlawful activities is evident from their plan to deploy a wide range of modern security tools. These include full-body scanners, body-worn cameras, anti-riot kits, and even sniffer dogs. An impressive 200 body-worn cameras are already operational, ensuring every prisoner’s behavior is closely monitored.

Virtual Justice: The Courtrooms of Tomorrow

In a bid to streamline judicial proceedings, Punjab’s Jail Department has embraced virtual courtrooms via video conferencing (VC). With 159 VC systems currently operational and 200 more in the pipeline, the government is reducing the need for physical prisoner transportation, thus saving valuable resources.
